All Hail the Queen

This is my former student, Shari. You've seen her before if you've ever been on my blog before. Her mother is one of my dearest friends and was the queen of the eighth grade hall while we taught together. Well, I can officially proclaim that there are now two queens in the house.

Friday night Shari was crowned Homecoming Queen. I can't think of someone more worthy.

This is Shari and Hollie...two of the sweetest girls I know. Congrats to being on the Court, ladies!

The whole night was one huge irony to me. It was my tenth reunion from high school. They were setting up a huge tent near the endzone at CHS. Though the real reunion events were taking place on Saturday, I felt an obligation to go Friday night. But I couldn't imagine not being there for Shari on her homecoming night, all the way across town at MHS. So, I decided to stay for a while at my high school homecoming until Miriam texted me that it was the beginning of the 2nd quarter at MHS. Then I'd get into my car and head across town. Fortunately, I made it. Missing it while being IN the country would have been unfathomable.

The irony came in this: at my high school homecoming I felt a little awkward and out of place. This is where I graduated from and spent the growing up years of my life. Yet my rival high school, MHS, is where I felt the most at home. The five years spent teaching in that community made me feel like I had a new home and allegience. So, I think that my "homegoing" was more special to me than my homecoming.

PS-Saturday night of our reunion was so much fun! WAY more fun than prom. Ha!

W.O.W.

My hometown is really moving up in the world. Olive Garden. Starbucks. Sante Fe Cattle Company. And now W.O.W. World of Wings. This is the coolest. Check out all the TVs and projectors. We could even control them from our booth. Well, our personal TV that is. And you get a TON of food. Unfortunately, Allie wasn't with us. But the rest of us had a good time!
